When the knee joint is beyond repair because of arthritis or severe injuries, Dr. Royce performs total knee replacement. Advanced techniques and equipment are used in a procedure generally called 'knee arthroplasty'. This procedure includes either total or partial replacement of the bone. Unicompartmental or total knee replacement includes using cobalt-chrome, titanium metals or wear-resistant plastic (polyethylene) to take the place the of the bone or cartilage in the joint. Flex bearing replacement joints allow for mobility in the knee allowing patiets to return to play.
