VISCOSUPPLEMENTATION

Dr. Royce provides a non-surgical approach to treating knee pain in the form of an office procedure called viscosupplementation.  For the appropriate patients, Dr. Royce injects a hyaluronic fluid directly into the joint to replace the synovial fluid lost or destroyed over time due to wear and tear on the knee joints.    

Viscosupplementation provides a cushioning between arthritic bones and damaged cartilage. People suffering from knee pain do not always need surgery and may find relief with viscosupplementation for 6 to 9 months after a series of three injections. The viscosupplement or fluid injected into the knee is Hyalgan. This fluid is not a drug and does not enter the blood stream.
